10,000 Paper Planes

Hannah Schroeder

I couldn’t tell you how it happened

Or why it came to be

But we made ten thousand paper planes

As white as white can be

We put them in a cardboard box

And made our way outside

Then one by one we threw them far

To see the highest they could go

Many shapes and many sizes

All soaring through the wind

What a sight it must’ve been

To be driving past our yard

For the grass was speckled white

In the middle of July

I hope that every person

Driving past us in their car

Had a smile as wide as ours

From catching airplanes in the yard
