[woman.]

Lindsay Benavides

delicate little flower

she used to say

a beautiful lily

but daylilies open themselves

once for the sun

and once for the moon

before crumbling

did that mean she only cared

about a daylily

when blooming

when tender petals stretched

calling for her to sniff pollen

yellow flecks dotting her nose

like fairy kisses

does that mean

after she plucked stem

from a bed of worms and dirt

and the sun and the moon kissed goodbye

and blush seeped into brown

and green stock sagged

that would no longer be

her delicate little flower

her frail little daylily.
